作品介绍
蔡旭(1911-1985),江苏武进人,农学家。1934 年毕业于国立中央大学;1945 年赴美国明尼苏达大学、康奈尔大学进修;回国后任教于北京大学农学院;新中国成立后,曾任北京农业大学教授、农学系系主任、副校长等职;1980 年当选为中国科学院生物学部院士。蔡旭先生是中国小麦杂交育种的开拓者,为华北地区选育出“农大 183”、“东方红 3 号”、“农大 139”等多批丰产、抗绣、适应性好的小麦良种,并在我国率先倡导开展小麦杂交优势利用研究,为提高我国小麦育种科学水平做出了巨大贡献。蔡旭先生铜像,位于西校区农学楼南侧的雪松丛中,由雕塑家刘涣章于 1989 年塑造而成,是校园中首座大师塑像。铜像展现蔡先生晚年形象,身着中山装,头发背梳,鬓角萧疏,目光平和,略带笑意。此铜像由蔡旭先生的同事和学生提议,校内外三十五家单位近千人捐款而塑造。
Introduction to Works
Cai Xu (1911-1985), was an agronomist, who born in Wujin, Jiangsu. He graduated from National Central University in 1934; In 1945, he went to the University of Minnesota and Cornell University in the United States for further studies; After returning to China, he taught at Agriculture collage of Peking University; After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, he served as a professor, head of the Department of Agriculture, and vice president at Beijing Agricultural University; In 1980, he was elected as an academician of the Biology Department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Mr. Cai Xu is a pioneer in wheat hybrid breeding in China, He has bred multiple batches of high-yield, anti-rust, and adaptable wheat varieties such as "Nongda 183", "Dongfanghong 3", and "Nongda 139" for the North China region. He has also taken the lead in promoting research on the utilization of wheat hybrid advantages in China, making significant contributions to improving the scientific level of wheat breeding in China. The bronze statue of Mr. Cai Xu is located in the cedar grove on the south side of the Agricultural Building in the West Campus. It was sculpted by sculptor Liu Huanzhang in 1989 and he is the first master statue on campus. The bronze statue depicts the image of Mr. Cai Xu in his later years, dressed in Chinese tunic suit, with combed hair at the back, sparse temples, calm eyes, and a slight smile. This bronze statue was proposed by Mr. Cai Xu's colleagues and students, and was created through donations from nearly a thousand people from 35 units both inside and outside the school.
